Peter Tokofsky organizes public education programs at the J. Paul Getty Museum and is an associate adjunct professor in the Department of Germanic Languages at UCLA. He is former director of the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles and an independent curator; in 2006 he organized the exhibition "The Art of Belief: Spirited Visions" in Los Angeles. He is a scholar of popular performance and display traditions in German-speaking Europe and in the United States. He has published extensively on aspects of German and Swiss carnival (Fasnacht) and contributed to the exhibition "Carnaval!" organized by the Museum of International Folk Art.
