About the Artist/Site
The Museum of Creativity was built by Vaughn Reid, a retired master machinist, with assistance from his friend and collaborator, Rich Fairbanks. The site features an eclectic collection of kinetic sculptures, fantastical installations, and imaginative displays that capture both local and intergalactic charm.
The Museum is infused with Reid's sense of humor. For instance, after his 6’6” son-in-law repeatedly hit his head on a particularly low workshop lintel, Reid put a duck sculpture on a shelf above the door as a warning to “duck.” When that didn’t work, he hung a pair of pink, lacy panties in the doorway. That worked perfectly.
Visitors are also treated to items such as a thick, screw post-bound book, entitled Everything Men Know About Women. It’s entirely blank. Nearby sits a framed photo of the Reids with a Polish robotics team that visited the Museum during a rover competition. The metal stand for this photo is none other than the head of the rover– which broke, so they used a spare for the competition and gifted the broken one to the Reids. Their goal is to bring joy and spark conversations with visitors from all over the world, as well as connecting with their community through ventures such as building mobile kinetic sculptures for the county fair parade.
There’s also a naturalistic sculpture that looks like the surface of an asteroid; this is an award from the Intergalactic Council for the provision and protection of the two UFO sites, one crash site and one landing site. “That’s my story and I’m sticking to it,” said Reid.
