L’AnnichettaOsvaldo Bottini (1910 – 1964)

A manager at the Falk Steel mills in Sesto San Giovanni, Bottini was always very fond of the sea. When there was an opportunity to restructure the farm in Annicco that had been his wife’s birthplace, he designed what has become the most recognizable building in town: a white ship constructed out of reinforced concrete. Complete with all the details such a ship should have, from helm to stern the ship measures 37 meters (120 feet) long and 13 meters (42 feet) tall.

Bottini built the ship at a local construction company; it was opened in 1962. The interior of the ship was first used as stables for the family’s cows, but after Bottini’s premature death, the Annichetta, now maintained by the farmer Angelo Fasoli, is used to store electrical equipment.

The ship is easily visible right on the side of Via Battisti, on the Bottini family property. The heirs continue to periodically maintain the site.
